New Neighborhood Parking Restrictions

Friday, May 14th, 2010

The City of Norwalk is adding new restricted parking zones to streets in the neighborhoods north of the college and designating all such areas as TOW AWAY zones. The new TOW AWAY zone signs are expected to be posted by May 21. Enforcement will begin June 4. Towing can be IMMEDIATE for parking without a resident permit. Towed-vehicle costs can exceed $400.00. Towed vehicles can be impounded for 30 days, or more, under certain conditions, at very significant additional expense.

You have alternatives. Parking is available on campus. Daily parking permits (use yellow dispensers) cost $2.00. Summer, 2010 Term student parking permits cost $20.00. The campus is served by multiple public transportation authorities, including bus service from MTA, Norwalk Transit, Long Beach Transit, and Cerritos on Wheels, and multiple connecting bus lines to the Norwalk Green Line station.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Cerritos College Student Discounts on Microsoft Office and Windows 7

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

All colleges and universities assign their current students a personal school e-mail address. Students can use and access their school email anywhere and anytime. But Cerritos College decided to stop providing their cerritos.edu email address to the students, perhaps it is to cut IT costs.

One disadvantage for Cerritos College students not having a college email address is that they can not take advantage of a highly discounted price for Microsoft Office 2007 and the new Microsoft Windows 7 software. If you visit the official Microsoft deal website at http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx , the Microsoft Office 2007 suite costs only a fraction of the retail price at only $59.99. The Microsoft Windows 7 software costs only $64.95. Both of these prices are for college students only with a valid .edu email address and be enrolled at least 0.5 units.

College students use Microsoft Office 2007 (or 2003 edition) on a daily basis for word processing, checking emails using Outlook, and working on spreadsheets using Excel. Most if not all works are done using the Office software and most likely you want to buy and install Office at your home computer too. Rather than spending couple hundreds of dollars for the Microsoft Office license, students can purchase through the Ultimate Steal promotion and take advantage of the more affordable pricing. And best of all, the license does not expire after you finish school. But you can not transfer or sell the license to anyone else.

You will need to obtain a college email address somehow to make a purchase through the Microsoft Ultimate Steal promotion. Unfortunately Cerritos College students are out of luck and will need to purchase the softwares through the campus bookstore at a higher price (lower than retail price).

Cerritos College Fall 2009 Enrollment Fee Increased

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Enrollment fee to enroll at Cerritos Community College has increased to $26 per unit due to California legislative changes with community colleges. Non-resident tuition fee is $190 per unit and international students tuition fee is now at $227 per unit. Additional fee includes the Student Activity Fee of $10 per semester and the Student Health fee which costs $16 per semester. Parking permit fee costs $30 and optional for students. Summer term fees are lower than the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.

To calculate how much your Fall 2009 tuition will costs you is by multiplying the per unit fee with the number of class units. For example, ENGL 100 FRESHMAN COMPOSITION (UC/CSU Transferable) is a 4.0 UNIT course. You simply multiply 4 units with $26 which will costs you $104 for the course. And you decide to add TH 101 INTRODUCTION TO THE THEATER course which is a 3.0 units course. That course will costs you $78. Finally you add $104 and $78, $10 Student Activity Fee, and $16 Student Health Fee which totals to $208 dollars. Add the parking fee of $30 if you commute with your car, totaling to $238.

You could speak with the college counselor to discuss your schedule and obtain financial aid information.

Illegal immigrant attending Cerritos

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

As an undocumented illegal immigrant, Gomez has both suffered and learned to overcome many obstacles that have been presented in his life.

He has admitted to the crimes, such as identity theft, he felt compelled to commit in order to try to survive and prosper in this “beautiful and great land of opportunities” he calls the United States.

“I’ve done so many things that I wish I could say I regret doing, but in all honesty I don’t think I could or should regret something that has helped my family prosper and survive,” he said.

He is currently attending Cerritos College under a different name and working under someone else’s social security number.

Prior to attending Cerritos College, he also attended ELAC and Cypress College, also under a different name, but was forced to leave because he was not able to present official proof, such as a birth certificate, in order to continue receiving financial aid.
