Neighborhood Noise Complaints (Excessive Parties)

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

A Norwalk resident e-mailed the regarding neighborhood noise problem:

I realize the economy has been bad for the last couple of years, so when more and more neighbors started having night time parties around here on a regular basis…we assumed that was why.

Well, it seems to be a weekly thing now. So much cheaper to turn your home into a nightclub. Booze, under-aged drinkers, cars parked everywhere and live bands! If it’s not a Mariache Band then it’s a live some kind of band and when they are done, they start the DJ. By then everyone is drunk as a skunk and they crank it up a little louder about every 15 minutes. Eventually the band starts singing and playing again.

This constant ‘boomp-boomp-boomp’ pounding my windows and eventually my head goes on from as early as 5pm to 2 or 3 am. Call the Norwalk Sheriff and 8 out of 10 times, they will say, it may take awhile because there’s other emergencies going on. If they do show up to have them turn down the noise, it’s back up within an hour.

If we can only have a limited number of yard sales a year- how much more annoying is it for everyone to listen to these parties going on from Fri Sat and Sun every weekend without regard to neighbors, even those living 2 blocks away, if they are disturbing their peace, or if their children are sleeping, or if someone is sick, has to work or want to get up for church Sunday!

We need a system that everyone knows about. Only so many parties, control how loud it gets, no under aged drinking, and if the police comes and asks you to turn it down- keep it down. It’s a residential neighborhood!!! Not zoned for a night club every flipping weekend. Doesn’t anyone care about their own neighbors anymore-that we are forced to call the police on them to just get some peace & respect? Something MUST be done SOON because some neighbors aren’t going to be so patient any more.

If you are a Norwalk homeowner and you are experiencing similar problems in your neighborhood, I urge you to write and address your concerns to the following City Councilmembers:

    Mayor – Mike Mendez
    Vice Mayor – Cheri Kelley
    Councilmember – Marcel Rodarte
    Councilmember – Leonard Shryock
    Councilmember – Luigi Vernola

And also visit the “Public Safety Commission” meeting to voice your concern(s). You will be heard.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION
Meets 1st Monday, 6:00 p.m., Council Chambers
Advises the City Council regarding public safety problems in the community, including (but not limited to) earthquake and disaster preparedness, emergency management, street crossing, child abuse and neighborhood watch.

Please continue to send me e-mails that you would like to share on NorwalkCity.com, thank you.

New Neighborhood Parking Restrictions

Friday, May 14th, 2010

The City of Norwalk is adding new restricted parking zones to streets in the neighborhoods north of the college and designating all such areas as TOW AWAY zones. The new TOW AWAY zone signs are expected to be posted by May 21. Enforcement will begin June 4. Towing can be IMMEDIATE for parking without a resident permit. Towed-vehicle costs can exceed $400.00. Towed vehicles can be impounded for 30 days, or more, under certain conditions, at very significant additional expense.

You have alternatives. Parking is available on campus. Daily parking permits (use yellow dispensers) cost $2.00. Summer, 2010 Term student parking permits cost $20.00. The campus is served by multiple public transportation authorities, including bus service from MTA, Norwalk Transit, Long Beach Transit, and Cerritos on Wheels, and multiple connecting bus lines to the Norwalk Green Line station.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Computers and Electronics Recycling Centers

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Check out http://www.norwalkcity.com/2010/01/electronic-waste-collection-event/ for the next electronics recycling event in the City of Norwalk.

Recycling has been a huge topic in the past few years due to the green initiatives and influential films and books by former Vice President Al Gore. Most residents of Norwalk city gets three trash bins per household – black bin for general trash, blue bin for recyclables, and a green bin for plant composts. The blue recyclable bin can be used to recycle paper items (newspapers, junk mails and flyers, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, and etc.), cardboard boxes, metals (aluminum, tin, wire hangers, aerosol cans, etc.), and plastics (even your plastic bags).

But did you know that you can not dump your computer desktops, CRT and LCD monitors, hard drives, ink toners, printers, and old television sets in your black or blue trash bins? These electronic equipments contains hazardous components that is unwanted in a land fill. So what exactly do you do with it if you can’t trash it?

AllGreenRecycling firm has many drop off locations in Southern California for electronics recycling. The website is http://www.allgreenrecycling.com/dropoff/california/ . I called the main number to see if the Norwalk branch is still operating but the operator told me that it might closed now and I was unable to reach them via phone. The Cerritos branch is open and is inside a Verizon retail store. Their address is 13315 South Street, Cerritos 90703. The store has long operating hours and the process of dropping off your electronics are simple and fast.
