New Neighborhood Parking Restrictions

Friday, May 14th, 2010

The City of Norwalk is adding new restricted parking zones to streets in the neighborhoods north of the college and designating all such areas as TOW AWAY zones. The new TOW AWAY zone signs are expected to be posted by May 21. Enforcement will begin June 4. Towing can be IMMEDIATE for parking without a resident permit. Towed-vehicle costs can exceed $400.00. Towed vehicles can be impounded for 30 days, or more, under certain conditions, at very significant additional expense.

You have alternatives. Parking is available on campus. Daily parking permits (use yellow dispensers) cost $2.00. Summer, 2010 Term student parking permits cost $20.00. The campus is served by multiple public transportation authorities, including bus service from MTA, Norwalk Transit, Long Beach Transit, and Cerritos on Wheels, and multiple connecting bus lines to the Norwalk Green Line station.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Cerritos College Student Discounts on Microsoft Office and Windows 7

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

All colleges and universities assign their current students a personal school e-mail address. Students can use and access their school email anywhere and anytime. But Cerritos College decided to stop providing their cerritos.edu email address to the students, perhaps it is to cut IT costs.

One disadvantage for Cerritos College students not having a college email address is that they can not take advantage of a highly discounted price for Microsoft Office 2007 and the new Microsoft Windows 7 software. If you visit the official Microsoft deal website at http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx , the Microsoft Office 2007 suite costs only a fraction of the retail price at only $59.99. The Microsoft Windows 7 software costs only $64.95. Both of these prices are for college students only with a valid .edu email address and be enrolled at least 0.5 units.

College students use Microsoft Office 2007 (or 2003 edition) on a daily basis for word processing, checking emails using Outlook, and working on spreadsheets using Excel. Most if not all works are done using the Office software and most likely you want to buy and install Office at your home computer too. Rather than spending couple hundreds of dollars for the Microsoft Office license, students can purchase through the Ultimate Steal promotion and take advantage of the more affordable pricing. And best of all, the license does not expire after you finish school. But you can not transfer or sell the license to anyone else.

You will need to obtain a college email address somehow to make a purchase through the Microsoft Ultimate Steal promotion. Unfortunately Cerritos College students are out of luck and will need to purchase the softwares through the campus bookstore at a higher price (lower than retail price).

Cerritos College Softball Headed to State Tournament

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

NORWALK – On a day when the Cerritos College softball team was challenged, albeit briefly, the Falcons’ bats more than made up for any shortcomings with six home runs in a 12-4 victory in six innings over visiting Saddleback in Sunday’s Super Regional game at Nancy Kelly Field.

The win, coupled with a 10-2 victory Friday, gives the Falcons (39-9-1), seeded No. 2 in Southern California, the series, 2-0, while Cerritos also advances to its third consecutive state tournament beginning this Friday in Salinas. Read more at http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/ci_12340729

The softball team of Cerritos College won its last two games against Saddleback City College Saturday and Sunday, setting the stage for the Falcons to defend its state title.

The Falcons were due to face a pitcher that is very difficult to hit off of, but with the hitting talent that Cerritos has shown throughout this season, the players and staff were confident of advancing to next round of the playoffs.

Assistant coach Bud Murray said, “We faced a tough pitcher who had beat us in our last two meetings, but after saddleback saw our hitting in a San Diego tournament, they were intimidated.”

The Falcons walked away with two mercy-rule wins this weekend.

12 hits led to 10 runs ending in a 10-2 win on Saturday and on Sunday, 14 hits led to a 12-4 win. Read more at http://www.talonmarks.com/softball-defends-state-title-1.1749565.
